The Ondo State Executive Council (EXCO), led by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the construction and rehabilitation of 101.036 kilometers of roads and several key building projects across the state to address infrastructure deficits.
The decision was announced following the EXCO meeting yesterday in Akure.
The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, briefed journalists, detailing that the total projects include 66.421 kilometers of new road construction and 34.615 kilometers of rehabilitation and reconstruction work.
The newly approved road works are intended to ease vehicular movement, boost commerce, and stimulate development in numerous communities.
Key projects approved include the Omotosho–Igbotako–Iju-Odo Road, a major 21.2 km reconstruction; the College Road–Irewole Roundabout, Igbokoda, involving the construction of an 8.5 km dual carriageway; and the Akure Road Works, which cover the reconstruction of the Akure–Imafon Road and the Danjuma–Bolajoko Road with a spur to Isikan, as well as the asphalt overlay of the Investment Junction–Shoprite Roundabout–Federal Secretariat route.

The Council also completed the review of the Ijoka Road Dualisation Project, which spans from Oba Adesida to Ijoka (Oke Iya Junction) with spurs, paving the way for the resumption of construction work.
Beyond road projects, the Executive Council also approved several building initiatives.
These include the construction of two new hostel blocks at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko, which will provide an additional 216-bed capacity for corps members.

The Council also approved the construction of a two-storey building for the newly established Ondo State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Commission.
In addition, major renovation and upgrading works were sanctioned for the office buildings of the Hospital Management Board (HMB), Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and the Ministry of Lands and Housing.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, stated that the approvals reflect Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to a developmental agenda that impacts every part of the state, assuring that all projects will be strictly monitored for timely and quality delivery.
The Council meeting also deliberated on issues relating to local governance.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, announced the appointment of three new traditional rulers.
Emmanuel Ifasole was named the Akinuwa of Igbindo in Ondo West Local Government Area, while Bamikole Adeyefa was appointed the Elemure of Emure-Ile in Owo Local Government Area.
In addition, Akintoye Adeoye was confirmed as the Oluoke of Okeigbo in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area.
The Council further approved the constitution of a Warrant Chiefs Committee for the Olojoda Chieftaincy Stool, which will comprise six nominees from the ruling houses.
