Osimhen becomes Galatasaray’s first hat-trick hero, tops UCL scoring chart, and surpasses Martins’ Nigerian record

Victor Osimhen breaks Galatasaray and Nigerian records with a hat-trick against Ajax, becoming the 2025/26 Champions League top scorer.

Victor Osimhen delivered a night of pure brilliance as Galatasaray defeated Ajax 3–0 in the UEFA Champions League at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

The Nigerian striker not only grabbed his first-ever Champions League hat-trick but also shattered several long-standing records in one unforgettable evening.

Osimhen became the first Galatasaray player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League and the first to find the net in consecutive matches with multiple goals.

His composed finishes and tireless work rate defined the Turkish side’s dominance as they outclassed their Dutch hosts under the bright European lights. With this treble, he took his tally to six goals in just three matches, leading the 2025/26 Champions League scoring chart ahead of Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappé, who all have five each.

Osimhen rewrites Nigerian football history in Europe

Beyond club glory, Osimhen has also written his name in Nigerian football folklore. He became only the second Nigerian ever to score a Champions League hat-trick, matching Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s 2002 feat.

More remarkably, he overtook Obafemi Martins to become Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in UEFA club competitions, with 25 goals to his name.

His recent run has been extraordinary — 12 goals in his last eight European outings, and a Man of the Match award in every Champions League appearance this season. Despite missing the opening matchday through injury, his impact since returning has been nothing short of transformative.

Osimhen’s heroics have now elevated Galatasaray’s European dream while once again reaffirming his place among the world’s most lethal forwards.
