Osun election: Davido banned from performing in Edo State after clash with Okpebholo

Afrobeat star, Davido, has reportedly been barred from performing in Edo State following his public disagreement with Governor Monday Okpebholo over the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.

The dispute began during the campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, when Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, over his performance in office.

The Edo governor had also claimed that Adeleke’s dancing was taking attention away from his responsibilities as governor.

Davido subsequently responded to Okpebholo in an Instagram post, mocking the governor over his academic performance by sharing what he described as his WAEC result.

Following Adeleke’s victory in the election, Davido, in an interview with News Central, said he would not apologise to Okpebholo. He maintained that the governor had no justification for attacking a sitting governor whom he described as performing better than him.

The singer later escalated the exchange in an open letter posted on Instagram, where he challenged Okpebholo to prepare for him.

The latest development has now seen Davido reportedly banned from staging performances in Edo State.
