Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved ₦45 million to strengthen the state’s campaign against HIV/AIDS.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, announced the approval during the inauguration of Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) Ambassadors at the agency’s headquarters in Agodi, Ibadan, on Thursday.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, Makinde explained that the funds, alongside the recent approval for the purchase of HIV test kits, will help expand the agency’s reach and improve its fight against the disease.

He said, “This N45 million for the control of this deadly disease across the state, alongside the recent approval of the purchase of HIV test kits are targeted at strengthening agency’s capacity to combat the epidemic.”

At the event, several individuals, including Saka Balogun, Ayo Ladigbolu, Mutiat Ladoja, Rasaq Adeleke, Wale Saminu, and Shina Peller, were officially inaugurated as OYSACA Ambassadors.

Makinde praised the ambassadors’ role, describing them as crucial partners in the state’s health agenda.

“The inauguration of these ambassadors marks a significant milestone in our collective journey towards a future where HIV/AIDS is no longer a public health threat.

“As an ambassador, you are not just a representative; you are the champions of change, you are the voices for those who have been silent, the beacon of hope for those in darkness, and the catalyst in a more inclusive and compassionate society,” he said.
