The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked off the new year with a call to action for the Federal Government, urging a decisive shift from “broken promises” to a “people-centered” governance model in 2026.

In a New Year message released on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, warned that millions of Nigerians are still struggling with deep-seated challenges, including insecurity and economic hardship, which continue to threaten the nation’s democratic stability.

Ememobong emphasised that the protection of lives and property is the government’s foremost constitutional duty—a responsibility that must be met without delay or further excuses.

“For millions of Nigerians, insecurity, economic hardship, and uncertainty have become their contemporary lived experience,” he said.

“This new year must not be another chapter of broken promises, but a turning point marked by decisive and people-centred governance.”

Heinsisted that government actions must be guided by the interests of the people rather than partisan survival, reminding those in power that they are “servants of the people” rather than rulers.

Ememobong also directed a firm charge to Nigeria’s key democratic pillars, including the judiciary, security agencies, and the electoral umpire.

He urged these institutions to resist political pressure and financial inducement, avoid “commodifying” their sacred responsibilities and ensure that the rule of law replaces arbitrary governance.

“Democracy cannot survive where arbitrariness replaces justice and impunity thrives unchecked,” Ememobong warned.

Reaffirming the party’s role as the leading opposition, he pledged that the party will stand in “unwavering solidarity” with Nigerians in the pursuit of an egalitarian society.

Ememobong criticised the current distribution of public resources, arguing they should be shared fairly rather than restricted to those with “proximity to power at the centre.”

He vowed that the PDP would continue to “speak truth to power” and hold the administration accountable until the welfare and aspirations of the citizens are prioritized.
