Bayelsa gov Diri resigns from PDP alongside speaker, lawmakers

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

According to Alabrah, the governor’s resignation was followed by that of the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP members in the state legislature.

Diri’s decision to leave the PDP puts an end to months of speculation regarding his alleged defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, Alabrah did not reveal the political party the governor intends to join next.

There are indications that all members of the State Executive Council have also stepped down alongside the governor.

When contacted, Alabrah declined to comment further on the matter, saying, “I cannot talk now.” Attempts to reach the state PDP Chairman, Mr. Solomon Agwanana, for comments were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls.
