Nigerian controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months in prison by a Magistrate Court in Ogun State, following his conviction on assault-related charges.

The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo in Ifo, Ogun State.

Portable was handed one month in prison with an option of a N10,000 fine for the first count, and two months with a N20,000 fine for the second—bringing his total sentence to three months, or a N30,000 fine as an alternative

The case dates back to November 18, 2022, when the street-pop star reportedly assaulted a man, Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi, in the Okeosa area of Ilogbo.

According to report, the 31-year-old singer was first arraigned in April 2023 and granted bail of N300,000, with two family members standing as sureties.

However, his repeated failure to appear in court led to his remand last Thursday after several adjournments.

Police prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke has earlier confirmed the details of the offense, saying it took place at about 11 a.m. in the Ifo Magisterial District.

The police also accused Portable of conspiring with others to commit the assault and of stealing musical equipment including a Yamaha studio monitor, an interface cable, and a condenser microphone.
