Paris Saint-Germain have secured their first UEFA Super Cup title after beating Tottenham Hotspur in a dramatic penalty shootout in Udine on 13 August 2025.
The match at the Stadio Friuli ended 2-2 in regulation, with PSG equalising a two-goal deficit in the final minutes. The Parisians won 4-3 in the shootout, completing a historic five-trophy haul in 2025.
UEFA Super Cup had pitted the Champions League winners, PSG, against Europa League champions Tottenham.
PSG, managed by Luis Enrique, entered with domestic titles in Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions, and Coupe de la Ligue already secured. Tottenham, who won the UEL under Ange Postecoglou, arrived buoyed by their first European trophy in years.
The contest opened with controlled possession from PSG, though Tottenham’s compact defence did not allow chances. In the 39th minute, Micky van de Ven gave Spurs the lead.

Three minutes after the restart, Cristian Romero doubled Tottenham’s advantage with another header, this time from Pedro Porro’s free-kick. The North London side appeared set for an upset.

Luis Enrique responded with attacking changes, subbing in Lee Kang-in and Gonçalo Ramos. The momentum shifted as PSG increased their pressing and found more space in attack.
In the 85th minute, Lee scored from close range after an assist from Vitinha. Tottenham’s defensive line began to falter under pressure.
Four minutes into stoppage time, Ousmane Dembele gave a pass to Ramos, who headed clear over goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to make it 2-2. The equaliser forced a penalty shootout.
PSG converted four spot-kicks, while new keeper Chevalier saved from Mathys Tel and Van de Ven, Tottenham’s first-half scorer. Nuno Mendes scored the decisive penalty, sealing PSG’s 4-3 victory.
The individual magic
Ramos and Lee were decisive substitutes, while Vitinha controlled midfield passages with composure. Chevalier’s key save maintained PSG’s advantage in the shootout.
Tottenham’s defensive duo, Van de Ven and Romero, excelled aerially, but the team’s pressing intensity dropped late. Kudus and Porro’s delivery from set-pieces remained a consistent threat.
PSG’s substitution depth proved decisive, countering Tottenham’s initial high-pressing game. The victory confirmed PSG’s first UEFA Super Cup and capped a dominant calendar year.
Conclusively, the 2025 Super Cup final will be remembered for its tactical brilliance, late goals, and penalty drama, cementing PSG’s status among Europe’s top clubs and marking a milestone in the Enrique era.
