The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that Ramadan will officially commence on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
In a statement from his palace on Friday evening, the Sultan revealed that the new moon was sighted earlier in the day, Friday, February 28, aligning with the 29th of Shaban.
He explained that multiple credible moon sighting reports from different parts of the country were reviewed and authenticated by the council, confirming the start of Ramadan 1446.

The Sultan called on Muslims nationwide to embrace the holy month with prayers, devotion, and acts of kindness.
He stressed the importance of charity, urging the faithful to support the less fortunate so that they, too, can observe the fasting period with ease.
He further stated that Islamic leaders across the country had verified the moon’s sighting, officially marking the beginning of Ramadan fasting on Saturday.
With this declaration, Muslims in Nigeria are set to commence a month of fasting, spiritual reflection, and increased worship.
