    NRTC WEEKLY Highlights

Topics for This Edition: Akpabio vs Natasha, Burna Boy and Sophia, Tinubu’s budget signing and the EPL title race.

    Akpabio vs Natasha

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) stirred social media after their altercation during a plenary session escalated.

Their rift deepened when Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and political victimization.

She alleged that Akpabio made unwelcome advances toward her and later obstructed her legislative work after she rejected him.

Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, she claimed that the Senate President deliberately blocked her motions, including her request to investigate corruption at the Ajaokuta Steel Company.

She recalled attending Akpabio’s birthday celebration in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on December 8, 2023, alongside her husband.

During a tour of his residence, she alleged that he held her hand and made an unsettling remark.

Meanwhile, Akpabio’s wife, Ekaette, dismissed the allegations, describing her husband as a respected and well-disciplined man.

The accusations sparked controversy, with many Nigerians calling for legal action against Akpoti-Uduaghan. However, Akpabio’s wife vowed to take legal steps against the senator instead.

Amid the heated debate, some netizens resurfaced previous sexual allegations against Akpabio to support Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims.

    Burna Boy and Sophia

Another controversy that captured public attention involved Nigerian socialite Sophia Egbueje and singer Burna Boy.

In a viral voice note, Egbueje accused Burna Boy of failing to fulfil a promise he made after allegedly sleeping with her.

She claimed that Burna Boy had a one-night stand with her but did not keep his word about buying her a Lamborghini.

Recounting their encounter in a leaked audio conversation with her friend, she explained that the singer initially contacted her through a club owner and arranged their meeting, which faced delays.

According to her, Burna Boy later reached out again, and her friend, Ama Reginald, convinced her to proceed with the intimate encounter.

Expressing her frustration, she accused Ama Reginald of betrayal regarding her dealings with the singer, stating, “Burna Boy kept making excuses, so I blocked him and bought the Lamborghini myself.”

In response, Burna Boy reacted in a viral video, sarcastically questioning whether her frustration stemmed from his refusal to buy the luxury car.

The controversy divided opinions online—some criticized Burna Boy for not keeping his promise, while others blamed the socialite for expecting a reward.

Tinubu signs ₦54.99trn budget into law

President Bola Tinubu signed the ₦54.99 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, marking a significant increase from the ₦27.5 trillion budget of 2024.

He finalized the signing at his office in the State House, Abuja, on Friday, after the National Assembly revised the original ₦49.7 trillion proposal submitted by the presidency.

The lawmakers approved the bill on February 13 after multiple adjustments.

A breakdown of the budget revealed ₦54.99 trillion in total expenditures, including ₦3.65 trillion for statutory transfers and ₦13.64 trillion for recurrent (non-debt) spending.

Many Nigerians reacting to the budget signing expressed hope that it would bring economic relief and improve their living conditions.

Liverpool vs Arsenal: Intense EPL title race

The 2025 Premier League title race between Liverpool and Arsenal has sparked excitement and tension among football fans worldwide.

Liverpool supporters, thrilled by their lead at the top, also remain anxious due to past seasons’ near-misses. While they trust the team’s attacking strength, particularly with Mohamed Salah in top form, concerns over dropped points in crucial matches have ignited debates on social media.

Discussions surrounding Arne Slot’s impact on Liverpool’s performance have intensified, with fans analyzing his influence on the squad.

Meanwhile, Arsenal fans continue to show resilience, believing in Mikel Arteta’s project and hoping for a late-season comeback.

Every slip-up by Liverpool fuels renewed optimism among Arsenal supporters, keeping the title race unpredictable.

As the season progresses, the battle between the two clubs has captivated football lovers, triggering passionate discussions and heightened emotions across the globe.
