Rivers Gov’t debunks summoning Fubara, warns against fake news

Rivers State Government sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.)

The Rivers State Government has denied reports that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Odu were summoned to a meeting by the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), calling the claims entirely false and designed to spread confusion.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau, Dede Friday, through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the government labeled the reports as “false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and incite panic.”

“The Rivers State Government has become aware of fraudulent announcements circulating on social media, falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government,” the statement read.

It specifically debunked a social media post that claimed that the governor and his deputy had been summoned to the Government House for a meeting tomorrow.

“The Rivers State Government categorically states that this announcement is fake and did not originate from any official source. The public is urged to disregard this and similar misinformation, as they are the work of troublemakers seeking to destabilise the state.”

The government further advised the public and media outlets to rely solely on official communication channels for credible information. These include the state’s official website, verified social media handles, authorized press releases, and recognized traditional media.

“Please disregard unverified sources and always confirm information from credible, official platforms,” the statement added.

The clarification comes amidst growing political tensions in Rivers State, with the administration reaffirming its commitment to transparency while urging residents to avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.
