Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will on Tuesday commission the newly reconstructed Old Ojo (Phase 1) Road, along with three other critical roads— Irede, Navy Town, and Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa) Roads— all in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.

The commissioning of these roads further underscored Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to the Transportation Pillar of his administration’s THEMES+ Agenda.

The completion of these projects, which are vital to supporting economic activities, marks a significant step in improving infrastructure across the state.

The 10.1km stretch of newly reconstructed roads connects key transportation components, including the Lagos Blue Line Rail on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and the Water component of the multi-modal transportation initiative.

The roads link residential and commercial areas, providing access to the Inland Waterways terminal and several jetties along the axis.

Irede Road, a 2.20km stretch off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, terminates at the Irede Jetty, facilitating water transportation to riverine communities such as Ibasa, Ibeshe, Ilashe, and Imoore.

Mumuni Adio Road, serving as a vital access point to Tank Farms and Industries in Ijegun Egba, is being upgraded from a semi-urban road built about 40 years ago.

Navy Town Road, which leads to the Ijegun Imoren Jetty, connects Old Ojo Road to the Central Bank Estate, Training School, and Navy Town.

The Old Ojo Road, originally built in the 1960s, was a single-carriageway with dilapidated pavements and ineffective drainage. The road has now been rehabilitated and upgraded to meet modern standards, providing vital access to the area’s economic hubs.

Governor Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, approved the rehabilitation of these roads to ensure their long-term durability, reflecting their administration’s dedication to improving Lagos’ infrastructure.

This initiative is part of the governor’s promise to continue upgrading old roads and constructing new ones for the benefit of Lagosians.

The inauguration of these roads will further enhance the state’s transportation network and contribute to the ongoing transformation of Lagos.
