NLC calls for nationwide strike over fuel price hike, writes ASUU, JUSUN, and others

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has instructed its 43 affiliate unions to prepare for an upcoming industrial action scheduled to commence on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

The strike is a response to the recent increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol). Among the unions affiliated with the NLC are the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, among others.

Emmanuel Ugboaja, the General Secretary of the NLC, signed a letter addressed to the affiliate unions, conveying the decision of the National Executive Council. The letter stated, “We extend greetings from the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress.”

“We would like to inform you that the nationwide action will commence on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. Accordingly, all national leaders are expected to mobilize their members for this action and ensure strict adherence to the directives.”
