Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday inaugurated two major infrastructure projects in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital: a signature garment factory designed to employ at least 4,000 workers at full operational capacity, and the 11-storey headquarters of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service.
The project commissioning formed part of activities marking the formal conferment of the traditional title of Sardauna of Ilorin (Defence Minister of the Ilorin Emirate) on Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq by the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
AbdulRazaq is the first individual to hold the historical title.
Speaking during the turbaning ceremony at the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin, Shettima commended AbdulRazaq for sustaining a legacy of public service and continuity.

He traced the family’s historical ties to the Ilorin Emirate through the governor’s late father, AbdulGaniyu AbdulRazaq, who made history as Northern Nigeria’s first lawyer and served as the first Mutawalle of Ilorin.
Reflecting on the continuity of family legacies, he noted that while a surname is inherited, the societal responsibilities accompanying it must be re-earned by each succeeding generation.
He added that as AbdulRazaq assumes his new role, prayers are offered for future generations who will inherit the story of these contributions.
Shettima also underscored his personal friendship and official collaboration with AbdulRazaq, noting that their work extends beyond ceremonial functions.

He observed that political appointments and titles eventually pass into history, but the personal bonds and impact achieved during public service endure.
Highlighting their shared duties at the National Economic Council, he explained that discussions centre on economic proposals, financing mechanisms, and policy execution to serve communities across the federation.
He noted that a functioning federation requires patient dialogue and a mutual recognition that administrative borders cannot diminish the dignity deserved by citizens.
Acknowledging AbdulRazaq’s role as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Shettima observed that his engagements with federal authorities and development partners focus directly on supporting farmers, households, and businesses.
He praised the governor’s administrative track record in Kwara State, citing tangible progress in school infrastructure, healthcare expansion, and rural connectivity.
The event attracted an array of dignitaries, including the governors of Imo, Kebbi, Plateau, Ekiti, Ogun, Niger, Bayelsa, and Kaduna states.
