Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja to represent President Bola Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Tinubu initially been scheduled to attend the summit but withdrew in order to remain in Nigeria and address mounting domestic security concerns.
According to a statement issued by Shettima’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the President postponed his trip to South Africa to await further security briefings following recent incidents in Kebbi and Kwara States.

The G20 Summit, hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in his capacity as the current G20 Chair, is scheduled for Saturday, 22 November, and Sunday, 23 November, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
The summit will bring together leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies, alongside representatives of the African Union, the European Union, and major global financial institutions.
Shettima is expected to articulate Nigeria’s priorities at the high-level meeting before returning to the country.
