Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been suspended for three months by his Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars. The suspension is pending an investigation into match-fixing allegations, the club announced on Friday.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper faces accusations of manipulating the outcome of a CAF Confederation Cup playoff match against Burundi’s Flambeau du Centre. Additionally, he is accused of a domestic league fixture against Namungo FC.
Obasogie has started in goal for the club’s last six matches. His costly error deep into stoppage time against Namungo on Thursday saw Singida Black Stars drop two points in a 1-1 draw.
Leading 1-0, the goalkeeper spilled what appeared to be a routine catch from a free kick, allowing Fabrice Ngoy to equalise. Moreover, he also committed a howler in the CAF Confederation Cup playoff first leg.
Club’s Disciplinary Committee announced the suspension in an official statement on Friday. Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho also received a three-month ban for indiscipline and absenteeism.
No formal charges or detailed evidence have been made public. The suspension is precautionary, allowing time for a full investigation.
The former Bendel Insurance captain insisted the goals resulted from footballing errors, not deliberate misconduct.
Before now
Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars in 2025 from Ethiopian club Fasil Kenema, and has been a regular presence in the Super Eagles squad since his November 2025 senior international debut against Egypt.
He was part of Nigeria’s bronze medal-winning squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, and served as third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.
He is the second Nigerian goalkeeper to face match-fixing or betting allegations in recent months. Udinese’s Maduka Okoye served a two-month suspension in 2025 over a betting scandal in Italy.

FIFA and the Confederation of African Football operate strict integrity that allow provisional suspensions while investigations proceed. Sanctions, if proven, can range from fines to lengthy bans.
Singida Black Stars has not specified which matches prompted the probe. Tanzanian football authorities have yet to make any official statement on the matter.
