TikTok deletes over 3.6 million videos in Nigeria for violating rules

TikTok has removed more than 3.6 million videos in Nigeria for going against its platform rules.

The company made this known in its latest community guidelines enforcement report released on Tuesday.

The report showed that the number of deleted videos grew by 50 percent compared to what was recorded in the last quarter of 2024.

TikTok said most of the videos were detected and taken down before users had the chance to report them, with about 92 percent removed within the first 24 hours after being uploaded.

The platform explained that it used advanced technology and trained reviewers to identify harmful or misleading content early.

It said while millions of videos are posted on TikTok daily, only a small portion violates the rules, as most content remains educational, fun, or creative.

Apart from deleting videos, TikTok also said it removed 129 accounts in West Africa in March for being involved in secret operations that went against its policies.

The report further revealed that TikTok took stronger action on its live streaming feature.

In the same period, over 42,000 live rooms were banned in Nigeria, while more than 48,000 live broadcasts were stopped because they broke the rules.

TikTok added that it has now made its live monetisation rules clearer so that users understand what type of content can or cannot earn money.

The update is aimed at protecting users and making the platform’s policies easier to understand.
