Tinubu appoints ex-INEC chairman Jega as special adviser on livestock reform

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform.

Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the appointment on Friday, stating that it aims to drive significant progress in the livestock sector and strengthen national development efforts.

Jega, a former vice chancellor of Bayero University, co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu.

The committee’s recommendations, including the creation of a Livestock Ministry, have played a key role in shaping sustainable livestock reforms.

At 68, Jega brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He is a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serves as the pro-chancellor and chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State.

He previously led INEC from 2010 to 2015, overseeing critical electoral reforms.
