President Bola Tinubu has approved changes in the leadership of key institutions in Nigeria’s energy and power sectors, appointing a new head for the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and extending the tenure of the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The decisions, which took immediate effect, were announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Professor Shu’aibu Aliyu was appointed Executive Secretary of the PTDF.

He is expected to strengthen capacity development and promote innovation within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

He replaced Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who stepped down from the role as he prepares to contest the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.

The President expressed confidence that Professor Aliyu’s academic and administrative experience would help reposition the PTDF in line with national energy priorities.

In the power sector, Tinubu renewed the appointment of Engineer Sule Abdulaziz as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the TCN.

His reappointment followed a performance review that credited him with improving grid stability, advancing transmission network upgrades, and strengthening Nigeria’s participation in the West African Power Pool.

With more than three decades of experience, Abdulaziz is expected to sustain ongoing efforts to modernise the country’s transmission infrastructure and improve overall efficiency in the power sector.

Tinubu urged both appointees to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and integrity.

The appointments align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises capacity building in the petroleum sector and improved performance across the electricity value chain.
