President Bola Tinubu on Sunday marked his 74th birthday with a major welfare initiative for Nigeria’s Armed Forces, pledging all the salaries he has earned since assuming office to support the fund.
The President announced the creation of a dedicated support fund, describing it as a tribute to the sacrifices of military personnel, particularly those injured in service and families of fallen soldiers.
As part of the initiative, Mr Tinubu directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to open a special account for the fund.
He also committed his entire salary since his inauguration as the seed capital.
The move, according to the Presidency, reflects his determination to lead by example and ensure that those who have risked or lost their lives for the country are not neglected.

The fund will provide targeted assistance to wounded service members and to families who lost loved ones in active duty, including widows and children.
Mr Tinubu noted that while insurance schemes already exist for military personnel, the new fund is intended to offer additional support.
He described it as a “national obligation”, stressing that caring for members of the Armed Forces should not be seen as charity but as a collective duty.
The President also urged governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector players, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the initiative.
