President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a subsidy reducing dialysis costs from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 per session in federal hospitals across Nigeria.
The announcement was made by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Information, through a statement on his official X handle. He explained that the intervention is already being implemented in major federal hospitals across the six geopolitical zones.
Hospitals currently offering the subsidised dialysis include the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Ebute-Metta in Lagos, FMC Jabi in Abuja, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, and FMC Owerri. Others are the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, FMC Abeokuta, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), FMC Azare, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

Bwala noted that the programme will expand further before the end of the year, with more federal medical centres and teaching hospitals expected to adopt the reduced pricing.
This initiative is targeted at easing the financial burden on citizens battling kidney-related diseases.
He also recalled that President Tinubu previously approved free caesarean sections in federal hospitals as part of broader healthcare reforms.
The policy is aimed at boosting maternal health services and cutting preventable maternal deaths.
“These measures clearly demonstrate the Renewed Hope Agenda in action, ensuring no Nigerian is denied healthcare because of cost,” Bwala stated.
