President Bola Tinubu has marked his 74th birthday with a subdued and reflective message, choosing a low-key celebration in consideration of the current national mood.
In a personal statement on Sunday, he expressed deep appreciation to Nigerians for the flood of prayers, goodwill messages and media tributes.
He also acknowledged the heartfelt wishes from his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, as well as Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Looking back on his administration as it approaches its third anniversary, the President admitted that his economic reforms have come with significant challenges.
He noted that external factors, particularly the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, had created temporary setbacks.
Despite this, he maintained that the sacrifices made by Nigerians were beginning to produce encouraging signs.

“I am mindful of the difficulties we have faced since embarking on these reforms,” he said.
“But it is reassuring to see that our efforts are not in vain. There is indeed a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.”
The President stressed that recent gains should be seen as a collective achievement rather than the success of his administration alone.
“The progress we are witnessing is not mine alone,” he said. “It is the result of our shared sacrifice, resilience and commitment as a people.”

He commended Nigerians for their patience and patriotism during a period of economic adjustment.
As his administration draws closer to its third anniversary in May, Tinubu reaffirmed his belief that the country is on the path to recovery and long-term growth.
He called for sustained unity and cooperation, urging citizens to remain steadfast in the face of ongoing challenges.
“We are resolute in tackling the difficulties before us,” he said. “With your continued support, we will overcome and build a nation we can all be proud of.”
