Tinubu, Oyebanji, Sanwo-Olu hail Olusi as ‘true democrat’ at chieftaincy ceremony

President Bola Tinubu, alongside Governors Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, on Saturday celebrated Tajudeen Olusi, Chairman of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC).

They described him as a true democrat and a nation-builder worthy of national recognition.

The leaders gave their commendations during Prince Olusi’s installation as Atobatele of Ado-Ekiti by the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, at the monarch’s palace in Ado-Ekiti.

Tinubu, represented by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, praised the octogenarian politician for his unwavering commitment to democratic ideals and national development.

“Prince Olusi is someone who is loved and revered by the President. This honour is not only for him but for Lagos State and the entire Yoruba land,” Bamidele said on behalf of the President.

“His life is a testament to true leadership and patriotism. It is a lesson to us all to prioritise Nigeria’s unity.”

Oyebanji described the chieftaincy title as a well-deserved recognition of Olusi’s decades of selfless service. He highlighted Olusi’s integrity, humility, and leadership as exemplary traits that have shaped Nigeria’s democratic journey.

“You are revered in Lagos and beyond. Your impact is evident in the calibre of people who accompanied you here today. You remain one of the few progressive politicians still standing,” Oyebanji said.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who led a high-powered delegation from Lagos, hailed Olusi as a unifying figure whose influence transcends state lines.

He noted that the conferment of the title reflected the cultural ties between Lagos and Ekiti States.

“This honour done to Prince Olusi is an honour to Lagos and Yoruba land. He is not just a leader but a builder of systems that promote growth and stability,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adejugbe, said the conferment was based on Olusi’s exceptional leadership, educational credentials, and contributions to community and cultural development.

The monarch stressed that traditional titles are not merely ceremonial but serve to bridge the past and present.

In his acceptance speech, Olusi expressed gratitude to the Ewi and the Ado-Ekiti kingdom, describing the title as a milestone in his life and a reaffirmation of his dedication to unity, leadership, and service.

“This recognition will further inspire me to mentor future leaders and continue contributing to the progress of Yoruba land and Nigeria at large,” he said.
