President Bola Tinubu has sent a letter to the Senate requesting confirmation of Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

This request follows Oluyede’s appointment as the Acting Chief of Army Staff on October 30, after the illness of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on November 5.

In the letter, President Tinubu expressed confidence in Oluyede’s leadership qualities and professional integrity, highlighting his extensive experience in military operations.

“Lt. Gen. Oluyede has demonstrated exceptional leadership, and his commitment to national security and stability is unwavering,” President Tinubu wrote.

“I am confident that he will continue to inspire and lead the Nigerian Army with the utmost professionalism.”

Oluyede, who was commissioned in 1992, is a decorated officer with numerous honours, including the Corps Medal of Honour and the Grand Service Star.
