President Bola Tinubu has sent a letter to the Senate requesting confirmation of Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
This request follows Oluyedeās appointment as the Acting Chief of Army Staff on October 30, after the illness of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on November 5.
In the letter, President Tinubu expressed confidence in Oluyedeās leadership qualities and professional integrity, highlighting his extensive experience in military operations.
Oluyede, a member of the 39th Regular Course of the Nigerian Army, has held numerous command positions and participated in several critical operations, including in Liberia, Bakassi, and the North East.

“Lt. Gen. Oluyede has demonstrated exceptional leadership, and his commitment to national security and stability is unwavering,ā President Tinubu wrote.

Oluyede, who was commissioned in 1992, is a decorated officer with numerous honours, including the Corps Medal of Honour and the Grand Service Star.
