Tinubu vows to unify Nigeria following PEPT judgement

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to building a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria in response to the recent judgement by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) in Abuja.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu expressed his readiness to serve all Nigerians, irrespective of their diverse political beliefs, religious affiliations, or tribal backgrounds.

He said he welcomed the tribunal’s judgement with a strong sense of responsibility, emphasizing his dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the equitable discharge of his presidential duties.

According to the statement, “The President affirms that his commitment to the rule of law, and the unhindered discharge of duties by the Tribunal, as witnessed in the panel’s exclusive respect for the merits of the petitions brought forward, further reflects the continuing maturation of Nigeria’s legal system, and the advancement of Africa’s largest democracy at a time when our democratic system of government is under test in other parts of the continent.”

Tinubu also acknowledged the diligence, thoroughness, and professionalism exhibited by the five-member bench, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, in their interpretation of the law.

He commended the tribunal for its respect for the merits of the petitions brought before it, highlighting the maturation of Nigeria’s legal system and the strengthening of democracy on the African continent.

The President praised all the presidential candidates and political parties that lawfully participated in the 2023 general elections and engaged in the subsequent judicial process, emphasizing their role in affirming Nigeria’s democratic credentials.

“The President believes the Presidential Candidates and Political Parties that have lawfully exercised their rights by participating in the 2023 general elections and the judicial process, which followed, have affirmed Nigeria’s democratic credentials,” as contained in the statement.

He called upon his challengers to encourage their supporters to prioritize patriotism over partisan interests, working together to improve the livelihoods of all Nigerians.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to Nigerians for entrusting him with the mandate to serve the nation.

He pledged to not only meet but exceed their expectations through diligent hard work with his dedicated team, relying on the grace of God Almighty to achieve their collective goals.
