BREAKING: Tribunal dismisses Atiku’s dual citizenship and drug conviction allegations against Tinubu

In a recent judgment, the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal has rejected the allegations made by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, regarding dual citizenship and drug conviction against President Bola Tinubu.

The tribunal upheld the objections raised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Tinubu, asserting that these allegations constituted new issues not originally pleaded in the petition regarding Tinubu’s qualification to contest the February 25 presidential election.

Atiku had argued that President Tinubu was constitutionally ineligible to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria due to his forfeiture of $460,000 in a compromise agreement related to narcotics-related crimes in the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division.

Additionally, Atiku claimed that Tinubu failed to disclose his dual citizenship of Nigeria and Guinea, having voluntarily acquired citizenship in the Republic of Guinea.

However, the tribunal’s ruling determined that these allegations could not be introduced as new issues in the ongoing legal proceedings.
