Chief Reuben Fasoranti, leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, stating that his policies are setting Nigeria on the path to greatness.
Speaking at his 99th birthday celebration held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, in Ondo State, Fasoranti said the future of Nigeria is promising and credited Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” for laying the groundwork for national progress.
He stated, “Although Nigeria might have missed opportunities to develop in the past, hope is very much alive now that the country is on the path to progress and greatness.
“Nigeria’s future is based on inspiration, and when Tinubu came to me to express his desire to run for the Presidency of Nigeria, I prayed to the Almighty, and I got a nod that the prayer would be answered.
“We continue to give glory and adoration to the Supreme Being for answering our prayers,” Fasoranti added, according to a statement released by Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, in Ibadan.
Fasoranti further stated that his optimism is grounded not only in Tinubu’s vision and policies but also in the wealth of human and natural resources Nigeria possesses.
He added, “The future is very bright for the Yoruba as they are increasingly becoming conscious of the historic roles they are to play in the emancipation of the black race.”
President Tinubu, in a tribute to the elder statesman, described Fasoranti as a “model of exemplary leadership.”
The occasion drew commendations from South-West governors: Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), who all praised Fasoranti for his lifetime of service, integrity, and leadership.
Governor Aiyedatiwa described him as “a rare symbol of patriotism, courage and integrity, whose life of selfless service has become a guiding light for generations of Nigerians.”
Governor Makinde praised Fasoranti for his contributions to the Yoruba nation and Nigeria as a whole, calling him a leader and father worthy of celebration.
Governor Adeleke noted that Fasoranti “is a great asset to the Yoruba race and Nigeria,” while Oyebanji said the elder statesman’s life reflected exemplary leadership.

Former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, emphasized Fasoranti’s significant contributions to education and leadership, describing him as deserving of all the accolades.

Also speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, represented by Registrar Mr. G. O. Saliu, said that societies thrive on the contributions of individuals like Fasoranti.
The chief host, Seinde Arogbofa, recalled Fasoranti’s steadfast role in protecting the Yoruba people during challenging times, noting that he stood firm in defence of the region.
The event served as both a birthday celebration and a moment of reflection on leadership, vision, and the future of Nigeria.
