Tolu Arokodare has earned a call-up to the Super Eagles ahead of two crucial World Cup qualifiers following his impressive form in Belgium.
Just like Papa Daniel Mustapha, Arokodare has said he was ‘surprised’ when he learnt about his invitation.

Both players are among the four first-time invitees to the Nigeria men’s national football team and are among the 23 players listed to prosecute World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. Other players to receive maiden national team call-ups are Igoh Ogbu (Slavia Praha, Czech Republic) and Kayode Bankole (Remo Stars).

‘I feel honoured’
Speaking during an interview posted on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Super Eagles, the 24-year-old expressed how honoured he felt to make even the 39-man provisional list.
He said he knew it (the call-up) was going to come because he had been doing pretty well
“I had it at the back of my mind that even if I didn’t get to make the final 23-man shortlist, I’m a winner already – that I’ve done something, I’ve achieved something,” Arokodare said.

“I just feel really blessed and really grateful. Getting the opportunity to represent your country to play is one of the best things that could happen to a player,” he added.
The Genk striker has scored 17 league goals to lead the 2024/25 goal scorers chart in the Belgian Pro League.
He joined Genk from French club Amiens in early 2023. He had replaced Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu who joined Southampton at the time.
