Reigning African champions Super Falcons of Nigeria recorded a confident performance to defeat Senegal 2-1 in Ikenne.
Right from kickoff, the hosts controlled possession and dictated the tempo with sharp passing. Their early dominance eventually translated into a deserved breakthrough in the first half.
Asisat Oshoala calmly stepped up and converted from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute. The composed finish showed her experience and leadership in crucial moments.
Nigeria doubled their advantage just before halftime through Toni Payne’s clinical strike. The Everton midfielder finished brilliantly after a precise assist from AS Roma defender Shukurat Oladipo.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade also threatened to extend the lead before the interval. However, the Senegalese goalkeeper produced a timely save to deny her effort.
The tempo dropped slightly after the restart as coach Justine Madugu made several tactical changes. Due to the changes, the rhythm of the game became more balanced.
