Chelsea has secured approval to move their Champions League round of 16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain from Stamford Bridge to Wembley Stadium after selling 85,325 tickets for a venue that holds just 40,000.
UEFA accepted Chelsea’s request to relocate the decisive fixture. The Football Association has also granted permission for the club to use the national stadium for the March 18 encounter.
PSG lead 5-2 from the first leg in Paris. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s 89th-minute winner gave the holders a slender advantage heading to London.
The scale of ticket demand caught Chelsea officials by surprise. Applications exceeded Stamford Bridge’s capacity several times over within hours of going on sale.
