Oyindamola Osinubi, an alumna of the University of Ibadan has been honoured with the 2024 Princess Diana Award, the highest accolade a young person can achieve for social impact.
The Diana Award, established to honour Princess Diana’s legacy, is a charity that recognizes young persons aged 19-25 making positive changes in their communities. Both of her sons, Prince William, The Prince of Wales, and Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, continue to support this organization.
Through her social venture, Shapers Network Africa, and her personal efforts, Osinubi has trained over 2,500 youths across nine African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa. Her training programs focus on equipping participants with skills to thrive in the future of work and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Additionally, she mentors adolescent girls (ages 10ā19) and young women (ages 18ā25) through TheFemForge project, providing them with the knowledge and tools to combat multidimensional poverty and become agents of change.
While she served as a Youth Advisor to the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, she contributed to impactful initiatives such as the Africa-EU Youth Climate Pact. Her global reach also includes participation in theāÆUnited Nations Office of CounterTerrorism Youth Engagement and Empowerment Programme (UNOCT-YEEP)āÆand the Community Engagement Exchange (CEE) programme.
Osinubiās innovative efforts and advocacy reflect her commitment to creating a skilled and resilient workforce, driving Africaās sustainable development and economic empowerment.
In a statement sent to News Round The Clock, Osinubi expressed her gratitude for the recognition. She said, “I am grateful for this recognition. My story serves as a testament of how youth-led social enterprises and innovations can positively impact the society. I will continue to contribute my quota to building a skilled and resilient youth workforce towards a more equitable and prosperousĀ Africa.”

She emphasized that such recognition serves as a catalyst for other young individuals to engage actively within their communities.

This year, the Diana Award received over 1,700 nominations, marking its most competitive cycle to date. Among the distinguished honorees is Oyindamola Osinubi, recognized for her exceptional contributions to society.
Osinubi was among the 22 recipients of the award from Nigeria and about 200 from all over the world, from over 1700Ā nominations.
Otito-Jesu Ayeni, a graduate of the University of Ibadan, and AyotomiwaĀ Elesho, a final-year student of the same institution, were also honoured with the 2024 Princess Diana Award.
To be considered for the Diana Award, candidates must be nominated by an adult who knows them in a professional capacity and is not a family member. Nominees should be between 9 and 25 years old and have demonstrated a commitment to social action for at least 12 months. This includes activities such as campaigning, educating, fundraising, or providing services aimed at creating positive social change.
