5 students share what working while schooling has taught them about the labour market

Running a business while schooling or working as a student can be challenging and stressful; however, there are lessons that come with taking up this challenge, especially how these students perceive the labour market.

In this interview conducted by our correspondent, 5 students revealed what being a student entrepreneur has taught them about the labour market.

When asked about how being a student entrepreneur has shaped his perception of the labour market, Oluwapelumi (Dimples’ Signature), who is building a fashion business in making bespoke menswear, ranging from traditional wears, pant trousers, waistcoats, kaftans, said it has helped him take responsibilities early.

“I’m not the only one in the industry, so I need to set my standard high,” Gladys (Gila Onigele and RBW) said. Her business brand is about style/tie gele (headgear) and doing makeup.

“It’s made me discover that the labour market can be favourable with quality delivery,” Lucky (Students Housing Solutions Agency) responded.

Shuqroh (Wura’s Buka) confessed that it is a battle in the labour market and survival of the fittest and smartest. “There is shege ahead! Lol, but seriously,” she added.

“Now, I see the labour market as a really competitive space, and it is about what you have to offer and what is in your brain, not only what you have in your certificate,” Elizabeth (Deo Quarters).

“The earlier you start, the better for you,” Olamide (AnyErrand). Her business provides errand services to students.

“It has helped me to perceive the labour market as a competitive space, a lonely path, but a fun place when you know your games and play it smart,” asserted Favour (The Yellow Bags), who produces comfy bags for students.
