The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on Corps members to steer clear of frivolous use of social media during and after their service year.
He gave this counsel on Wednesday while addressing the 2025 Batch A, Stream 2 Corps members currently undergoing orientation at the NYSC camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Acknowledging the growing influence of digital platforms in today’s world, Nafiu encouraged the new Corps members to use social media wisely and not for trivial or harmful activities.
“Avoid taking some issues, which can be easily resolved with people around you, avoid abuse of social media, which the consequences can be very grievous now and even later in the future,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of exercising discretion online, warning that improper use of social media could have serious implications.
Earlier in his address, the DG congratulated the Corps members on the successful completion of their academic programmes, which qualified them for national service. He encouraged them to use the one-year scheme to build the foundation for future leadership roles.
He further advised them to remain diligent, committed, and patriotic in the course of their service to the country.
Also speaking at the event, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa, described the DG’s visit as highly motivating. He noted that it would boost the morale of the 2,290 Corps members undergoing orientation in the state.
