Undefeated champion Oleksandr Usyk’s next fight carries intrigue and controversy as he prepares to face Rico Verhoeven in Egypt.
The bout, set near the pyramids of Giza, is set to witness spectacle with uncertainty.The WBA confirmed the fight will count as a title defence if Usyk wins. However, Verhoeven cannot claim the belt.
“Should Usyk emerge victorious, the bout will officially count as a successful title defence,” the WBA said.

Meanwhile, the IBF has taken a firmer stance, in that a loss would immediately vacate Usyk’s title.
