Governor Hope Uzodimma has hailed a new era of political alignment in Imo State.

He described the recent defection of high-profile opposition figures to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a testament to the state’s “remarkable” development trajectory.

Speaking in Owerri, the governor received a distinguished group of former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members, led by prominent businessman and politician Evang. Mike Ikokwu.

Uzodimma characterised the move as a shift from partisan opposition toward a “progressive family” dedicated to the collective growth of the state.

Uzodimma in a statement posted on his X page on Tuesday emphasised that the momentum currently seen in Imo is fueled by a commitment to secure lasting prosperity.

He noted that the decision of the new members to join the APC underscores a growing awareness that the state’s progress must transcend political divides.

“The decision highlights a collective commitment to the greater good of our State,” Uzodimma remarked. “No progressive-minded person desires to be left behind in this renewed momentum.”

The governor linked the state’s local successes to the broader national agenda led by President Bola Tinubu.

He noted that Imo continues to align its development strategies with the President’s “purposeful leadership,” which focuses on strengthening sustainable goals across the federation.

Key highlights of the governor’s address included a call for all “ndi Imo” (the people of Imo) to embrace unity and peace as the foundation for any meaningful growth.

He reaffirmed that the APC remains an inclusive platform for all who wish to contribute to the state’s advancement and pledged to keep Imo firmly on a path where developmental gains are protected for future generations.

The entry of Mike Ikokwu and his supporters is seen by political analysts as a significant blow to the opposition in the state, further consolidating the APC’s influence.

Uzodimma maintained that his administration would remain resolute in prioritising the interests of all citizens over political friction.

“Imo unquestionably belongs to all of us,” the governor concluded, urging all stakeholders to join hands in advancing the state’s growth.
