The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has met Sunday Igboho over Oriire abductions, addressing the continued hostage situation of abducted students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, while seeking collaboration with local security outfits to secure their release.
In a press statement issued on June 4, NANS President, Akinteye Afeez, said the visit was part of efforts to forestall further abductions and strengthen community security.
“We are deeply disturbed and committed to exploring every possible means to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers,” he stated.
The meeting focused on engaging vetted local volunteers, including hunters and experienced community guards, to support government operations.

Igboho commended NANS for its non‑partisan stance and proactive leadership, describing the association as “the foremost organization with the capacity to hold government accountable.”
He urged the student body not to relent, stressing that the situation was a test of national resolve rather than politics.
NANS further appealed to President Bola Tinubu to equip the Iru Ekun local security outfits as part of measures to secure the release of the victims.
The association reiterated its resolve not to compromise in its quest to ensure their safe return, vowing to continue pressing for stronger collaboration between government and community security structures.
