Veteran Nollywood actor Chief Kanran dies at 72

Renowned Nollywood actor Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, has died at the age of 72.

NRTC gathered that the veteran thespian passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Seun Oloketuyi, a popular filmmaker, announced the actor’s passing in a post on Instagram.

“Popular actor, Segun Remi died Friday morning,” he wrote.

The cause of death had not been officially disclosed at the time of filing this report.

Chief Kanran was a beloved figure in the Yoruba film industry, famed for his distinctive style, humour, and captivating performances in numerous stage plays and films spanning decades.

His passing comes just days after the death of another Nollywood actor, Seun Confirm.
