The Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched its electronic membership registration exercise, with the party leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, urging Nigerians to look past current challenges and support the “well-intentioned” reforms of President Bola Tinubu.

The statewide rollout, which commenced on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Hall in Gawon Nama, follows a directive from the party’s national headquarters to modernize its database ahead of the 2026 primaries and 2027 general elections.

Speaking after he was registered as the state’s “number one” member, Wamakko—a former governor of Sokoto State—offered a personal testimonial for the President.

He explained that due to the absence of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, who is currently on lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, he consented to lead the exercise to ensure the state met the party’s strict deadlines.

“I am personally close to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I know what he intends for the good people of this great nation,” Wamakko told the large gathering of party faithful.

“Development cannot be achieved without challenges. I pray that Allah continues to guide him to move Nigeria forward, making it more stable for present and future generations.”

Wamakko commended the President for his efforts in “repositioning” Nigeria to be globally competitive, particularly in the areas of human capital advancement and sustainable development.

The State Chairman of the APC, Isah Sadiq Achida, emphasised that the transition to an electronic system is critical for eliminating “phantom entries” and building a verifiable record of the party’s strength.

Achida noted that following the symbolic registration of the state’s top leadership, the exercise would immediately move into all 23 local government areas.

He appealed to members across the state to participate promptly to ensure the exercise is completed within the two-week window set by the national leadership.

The flag-off ceremony saw the registration of several key government officials and party stakeholders, including Idris Gobir, Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment, Bello Goronyo, Minister of State for Works and Kulu Abubakar, Ambassador-designate.

The event was witnessed by a cross-section of local government chairmen and grassroots mobilizers, whom Senator Wamakko thanked for their “sustained support” in keeping the APC as the dominant political force in Sokoto State.
