Wembanyama makes history with unanimous Defensive Player Of the Year award

Wembanyama unanimously voted best NBA best defensive Player of the year.

Victor Wembanyama has written his beloved name in NBA history with a landmark defensive accolade.

At just 22, the San Antonio Spurs star secured every first-place vote to become the youngest winner of the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Wembanyama averaged 3.1 blocks per game, leading the league again this season. He also posted career-best numbers in scoring and rebounding.

“I’m super, super happy to win this award,” he said proudly. He added he was “super proud to be the first ever unanimous winner.”

Playoff performances and team success highlight Wembanyama’s impact

His influence went beyond individual brilliance to team success this season. The Spurs finished with a 62-20 record and elite defensive rankings.

Meanwhile, Chet Holmgren finished second, while Ausar Thompson placed third in voting. However, Wembanyama’s dominance made the outcome inevitable.

In playoff action, the Cleveland Cavaliers gained control against the Toronto Raptors in their series. Donovan Mitchell starred, while James Harden added key scoring support.
