The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has announced that the country will not be presenting any film for the International Feature Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards.
The committee had called for entries in August, attracting six submissions from filmmakers.
Over the weekend, members held a meeting where they voted to end the process without forwarding any of the films for Oscar consideration.

Chairperson Stephanie Linus explained that while Nigerian films have continued to record progress and greater awareness of international standards, there are still gaps in creativity and technical quality that need to be addressed before they can compete strongly on the global stage.
“While Nigerian films have no doubt shown significant improvement and growing awareness of IFF standards, there is still a deficit in creative and technical intentionality that will improve their competitive potential for global awards,” Linus said.
The NOSC has already notified the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of its decision not to make a submission this year.
