Fiji Bulikula have dominated Nigeria Green Falcons 62–4 in the International Rugby League Women’s World Series final in Brampton, Canada. The result confirms Fiji’s qualification for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.
The defeat ends Nigeria’s bid for a maiden World Cup appearance. The Green Falcons’ spirited campaign fell short against Fiji’s superior pace and tactical control.
At halftime, Fiji led 28–4 after relentless attacking phases. Nigeria’s only try came from a powerful run finished by Shondell Akhabue, who also converted successfully.
Fiji tightened their grip after the break, scoring 34 unanswered points. Their clinical finishing and defensive discipline silenced Nigeria’s attempts to regroup.
Despite the loss, several Nigerian players impressed. Fullback Blessing Aladeyelu showcased composure under pressure. Winger Iyoha Success displayed pace and agility on the flanks. Adeola King led the forwards with authority, supported by Fedelia Omoghan.
Fiji’s ruthless precision
Fiji’s attacking depth proved decisive. M Paseka and I Waterman each scored three tries, while T Marshall’s two tries show the team’s structured dominance.
Nigeria’s path to the final had inspired hope. They defeated Ireland 10–0 in the semifinal, with R Iliya and Omoghan scoring tries and F Akeje converting. The Green Falcons became Africa’s first women’s rugby league finalists.
Though Fiji celebrated a World Cup berth, Nigeria’s progress drew admiration. The experience is expected to accelerate investment in local rugby development and youth programmes.
