WWC: Super Falcons Alozie defends Lauren James despite stamping on her 


Nigeria Super Falcons defender, Michelle Alozie has defended England star player, Lauren James despite stamping on her on the pitch which led to the Chelsea women’s forward being sent off in the game against Nigeria on Monday morning.

Alozie via her Twitter handle said it was a game of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. 

She added that they are playing on the world’s stage, saying all respect for James.

She tweeted: “Abeg, rest. We are playing on the world’s stage. This game is one of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. all respect for Lauren James.”

The Chelsea women’s forward received a red card from Argentinian referee Melissa Borjas after she stepped on Nigeria’s defender, Michelle Alozie’s buttock.

The referee had initially given James a yellow before she was advised to consult the VAR on-pitch monitor and then returned to give her a red card.

NRTC reported that after a 0-0 draw in extra minutes, the Lionesses defeated the Super Falcons in the Round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup via a penalty shoot-out that ended 4:2 to advance to the quarterfinal.
