WWC: Nigerians hail Michelle Alozie’s defense of Lauren James amidst racism controversies

Nigerians have lauded Super Falcons defender, Michelle Alozie for defending England star, Lauren James over a racist chat that surrounded the Chelsea women’s forward stamped on her in the game against Nigeria on Monday morning.

According to Nigerians, especially Netizens, football is a passionate game —fans go the extra mile as they feel the pain more than the player.

They commended her for defending James, saying everyone loses their cool and acts out of frustration.

While cheering Alozie for her humility and maturity, they expressed delight in the Super Falcons’ maturity at the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Recall that the England star Lauren James was sent off in the game against Nigeria on Monday morning after stamping on Alozie at the Round-16 of the Women’s World Cup.

The Chelsea women’s forward received a red card from Argentinian referee Melissa Borjas after she stepped on Nigeria’s defender, Michelle Alozie’s buttock.

The referee had initially given James a yellow before she was advised to consult the VAR on-pitch monitor and then returned to give her a red card.

NRTC gathered that James deactivated the comments section on her Instagram and Twitter handles after a 0-0 draw in an extra-minute match which ended 4:2 in a penalty shoot-out in favour of England, the Lionesses.

NRTC gathered that the deactivation of James’ comments section must have been a result of Nigerians attacking her for stepping on Alozie which some tagged as racism.
