Nigerian lives matter, but what’s it worth?

Nigerian lives matter, but what’s it worth?

The life of the average Nigerian is worth little to nothing to the political elites and ruling class of the nation. The Nigerian life is only a phase in time, as the moment passes by; it will fizzle and the politicians would not bat an eye.

On Thursday, May 12; there was disarray across the nation after a young Nigerian lady identified as Deborah Samuel was assaulted and burnt by an angry religious mob for defaming Prophet Mohammed.

The videos of the assault instigated pandemonium and chaos; everyone was livid, especially the Nigerian Christians who reside in the South and Western part of the country.

Albeit the northerners who identify as Muslims stated that the killing was justified.

According to former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, he wrote on the microblogging site, Twitter:

“There is no Muslim that don’t respect the sanctity and the divinity of Jesus Christ.

And certainly, there is no Muslim that will ever tolerate denigrating our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

Insulting him is our uncompromising REDLINE.

Respect our sensibilities and avoid it.”

Also, the former vice president of the federal country, Atiku Abubakar took down his tweets after initially condemning the mauling of Deborah, a Northern Christian.

This explains how much the life of the average Nigerian is worth.

A Nigerian is one bullet away from going to the great bullet; there is no freedom of expression due to the heinous stings of religious bigots. You are one word away from blasphemy.

As a Nigerian, you are one moment from being taken off the streets due to your tribe, religion, physical demeanour amongst other reasons. Tread carefully, you are a Nigerian.

The night that shattered the hearts of the leaders of tomorrow

Nigerian youths protesting.

Tuesday, October 20, 2020, the streets of Lagos went cold following the disheartening moment of madness where the military officers shot at innocent #EndSARS protesters.

It is safe to say burgeoning leaders of the nation lost hope in capacity building after this nefarious incident.

No Nigerian youth ever perceived the nation the same.

On this fateful day, the Nigerian entertainer DJ Switch emerged the heroine after she broadcasted the tempestuous moment on her Instagram live platform.

Numerous innocent individuals who demanded better governance from the leaders had their dreams cut short. Those who woke up with dreams and aspiration went to bed early due to the cruelty of the Nigerian government and her leaders.

Days after the conundrum, the political leaders denied the killing of innocent protesters.

Those we put in power gaslighted the people saw the incessant shooting. It was tedious to watch; aching to the spirit.

The minister of Information, Lai Mohammed denied the incident ever happened.

Speaking before pressmen, Lai Mohammed stated that the shooting was ‘doctored and edited’ by Nigerian entertainer, DJ Switch.

DJ Switch has since absconded from Nigeria to seek asylum in greener pastures. She understands that her life is at risk and no justice would be served should she be murdered.

The scars of the heinous night remains in the heart of every Nigerian youth who was admonishing the government to cater to the wellness and protection of it’s citizens via the #EndSARS protest.

This heart wrenching incident knitted with the several issues maligning the state of the nation. Some of which includes insecurity; terrorism, kidnapping and several other nefarious activities.

It is safe to say the country is in ruins and rubbles as it continues to experience rapid relapse.

How much is the life of a Nigerian worth?

During election, the life of a Nigerian is equal to the price he is prepared to receive to vote for a certain candidate.

The answer to the rhetorical question above depends on who you ask. Should a Nigerian decide to save N1 per day; he wouldn’t still accumulate a total of equivalent of $1 in a year. This simply summarizes the current state of the Nigerian economy and the state of affairs.

Indeed, there is beauty in the ashes, however, why must everything burn to the ground before we begin to rebuild.

Nigerians are in a dire situation.

This explains why an average Nigerian is religious and believes that a certain spiritual being is coming to rescue him or her.

Unfortunately, God will never descend from heaven to aid us through this devastating phase. We, Nigerian put our hands together as a nation and bring our nations forth.

Leadership in Nigeria

It is no longer news that the worth of the life of the citizen of the federal republic of Nigeria is little to nothing in the eyes of the extravagant leader.

Those who occupy the upper echelon do not understand the struggles of the common man and they have no intention of making it easy. The offspring of the average Nigerian politician or socialite attends some of the best institutions overseas.

The sadness and melancholy turmoil that the Nigerian scholar must go through does not in any way affect the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.

It would be recalled that on Monday, May 9; the Nigerian government extended the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike by 12 weeks (3 months). The elongation is knitted with the two months sit-at-home exercise that is steadily making students lose interest in their academics and schooling.

The government officials could care less primarily because they are more concerned with the upcoming 2023 political elections. As the title of the article reads; the Nigerian lives matter, but it isn’t worth a needle in the market place.

Equally, the average Nigerian is scared to the bone; holding on to his or her religion; awaiting salvation and redemption from the most high. This is why Nigeria is one of the most religious nation in the world.

Life as a Nigerian is fickle, there is no justice for the oppressed because there is no balance in the system.

A Nigerian works hard all day only to be terminated by the bullet of a uniformed man behind a rifle; a pregnant woman might not live to see her crying baby because of negligence of the medical practitioner.

Nigeria is a country blessed with natural resources; however, its people are dying of salvation.

‘May Nigeria does not happen to you.’
