President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive for the immediate reopening of Nigeria’s land and air borders with the Republic of Niger, along with the lifting of other sanctions against the country.
According to Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, this directive aligns with the decisions made by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government during its extraordinary summit on February 24th in Abuja.
During the summit, ECOWAS leaders collectively agreed to lift economic sanctions against the Republic of Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

President Tinubu’s directive includes the immediate lifting of the following sanctions imposed on the Republic of Niger: the closure of land and air borders between Nigeria and Niger Republic, as well as the ECOWAS no-fly zone on all commercial flights to and from Niger Republic.
Furthermore, the suspension of all commercial and financial transactions between Nigeria and Niger, as well as the freeze of all service transactions, including utility services and electricity to Niger Republic, are to be lifted.
Similarly, the freeze of assets of the Republic of Niger in ECOWAS Central Banks and the freeze of assets of the Republic of Niger, state enterprises, and parastatals in commercial banks are to be lifted.
Furthermore, the suspension of Niger from all financial assistance and transactions with all financial institutions, particularly EBID and BOAD, and travel bans on government officials and their family members are to be lifted.

President Tinubu also approved the lifting of financial and economic sanctions against the Republic of Guinea.
