The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has settled on Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi”, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the decision, signalling the party’s early move to consolidate its structure ahead of the next political transition.

Party insiders said the choice followed weeks of consultations and careful negotiations aimed at presenting a united front.

A key highlight of the announcement was the resolution of long-standing rivalries within Ogun West.

To reach a consensus, the party secured the backing of influential figures from the district, including Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Isiaq Abiodun Akinlade.

Their alignment with Adeola is seen as a strategic step towards finally giving Ogun West a realistic shot at producing the state’s governor — a long-held aspiration in the region.

Abiodun stressed that the decision was deliberate and based on a broad evaluation of potential contenders.

According to him, the party weighed several factors, including experience, leadership capacity and alignment with the administration’s development agenda.

He noted that Adeola’s track record and legislative experience placed him in a strong position to sustain ongoing reforms while driving further growth across the state.

“This decision reflects our collective resolve to protect the progress we have made and to move Ogun State forward,” the governor said.

“We believe Senator Adeola has what it takes to deliver even more for our people.”

With the ticket now effectively settled, the APC has urged its members to remain united, disciplined and focused as preparations gradually shift towards full campaign mode.
