2027: Sanwo-Olu congratulates Hamzat on emergence as Lagos APC governorship candidate

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, following his emergence as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued on his X page on Friday, Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in Hamzat’s leadership capacity.

He described him as a committed public servant with a clear vision for the continued growth and development of the state.

Reflecting on their years of working together, the governor said their government partnership had allowed him to witness Hamzat’s dedication, intellect and passion for improving the lives of Lagosians.

“We have worked side by side for years, and I have seen firsthand his deep love for Lagosians, his brilliance and his unwavering commitment to progress,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Lagos’ future

Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the enormous responsibility that comes with governing Nigeria’s commercial capital.

He maintained that Hamzat possesses the experience and strength required to build on the achievements of the current administration.

“The task ahead is enormous, but with Femi, I am fully confident that Lagos will attain even greater heights,” the governor added.

He also urged party members and residents of the state to remain united and continue supporting efforts aimed at sustaining progress and ensuring continuity in governance across the state.

Hamzat, who was earlier endorsed by President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders in the state polled 657,917 votes out of 657,974 accredited votes cast during the party primary.

His challenger, Lanre Jim-Kamal, polled one vote. Another aspirant, Samuel Ajose, withdrew from the race before the exercise.

Chairman of the APC National Governorship Election Committee, Jon Temlong made the results announcement.


In attendance were Sanwo-Olu, party leaders, and key stakeholders, including Senator Ganiyu Solomon, former Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, local government chairmen, members of the Lagos State Executive Council, lawmakers, and other party members.
