Seven stadiums across Nigeria are undergoing major renovations ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The projects include FIFA-standard pitch installations, expanded seating capacity and upgraded dressing rooms.
The NPFL season is set to kick off on Friday, 28 August.
Bako Kontagora Stadium (Minna)
The Niger State Government has commenced the reconstruction of the Bako Kontagora Stadium, home of Niger Tornadoes. The project includes the installation of a modern synthetic playing surface and other key facilities.
Commissioner Jacob Baba-Yisa assured the renovation will be completed before the new season and will include floodlights for night matches.

Umuahia Township Stadium (Umuahia)
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has announced plans to renovate the Umuahia Township Stadium. The government has acquired land for a new befitting stadium, with construction expected to begin before the end of the year. The total renovation was initially slated to begin in 2026.
Rwang Pam Stadium (Jos)
The Plateau State Government has commenced renovation work on the Rwang Pam Township Stadium. Over ₦1 billion has already been invested to transform the venue into a FIFA-standard facility capable of supporting CAF competitions. The remodelling project is expected to be finalised by November.
Warri City Stadium (Warri)
Delta State Government is remodelling the Warri City Stadium with capacity increased from 17,000 to 20,000 spectators. The facility will feature a FIFA-standard hybrid grass surface, advanced nine-lane tartan track, Olympic-sized swimming pool, and an indoor sports hall. The contractor assured the stadium will be ready by September.

Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium (Enugu)
Enugu State Government is carrying out extensive upgrades at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. The project includes a FIFA-certified turf, fully covered main bowl, IAAF-certified PU track, and an Olympic-standard swimming pool. China Communications Construction Company is handling the renovation.
Dambatta Stadium (Kano)
Dambatta Stadium, traditional home of Barau FC, is undergoing extensive upgrades to meet NPFL standards. International experts from the UK, Turkey and Egypt have inspected the facility to accelerate its completion.
Yakubu Gowon Stadium (Port Harcourt)
Rivers State Government is remodelling the 16,000-capacity Yakubu Gowon Stadium into a world-class arena. The project, handled by Monimichelle Sports Construction Company, is over 90 per cent completed. The stadium will feature a hybrid synthetic pitch, polyurethane athletics track, VIP sections and modern floodlights.
