It’s another edition of NRTC WEEKLY Roundup, and in this week’s edition, we are focusing on five trending stories across the country.

As usual, the stories will cut across the top five beats in our media organisation, NRTC [your one-stop hub for rich and reliable content covering entertainment, sports, politics, metro, and leading stories].

As we all know, a day can’t pass without trending stories, and we have tracked many of them for you this week. Why not scroll down and treat yourself?

Politics: ADC proceeds with convention despite venue setbacks

NRTC WEEKLY learnt that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) went ahead with its national convention on Tuesday, pushing through internal leadership tensions and last-minute venue challenges linked to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s derecognition of a faction within the party.

Plans to use Eagle Square in Abuja fell through, while access to the Rainbow Event Centre was also reportedly withdrawn shortly before the event.

Undeterred, the party relocated to an alternative venue, where an estimated 3,000 delegates from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) assembled, many dressed in vibrant colours for the occasion.

Security personnel conducted strict screening at the entrance as accreditation got underway, overseen by a sub-committee led by Austin Akobundu.

Business/Economy: NNPC remits N1.8trn to federation account in February

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) remitted N1.804 trillion to the Federation Account in February 2026, a sharp increase from the N726 billion recorded in January.

Total revenue rose to N2.68 trillion in February from N2.57 trillion in the previous month, while profit after tax stood at N136 billion, indicating improved profitability.

Crude oil and condensate production averaged 1.51 million barrels per day during the month, supporting the higher remittance.

The improved performance follows recent policy changes aimed at strengthening revenue transparency in the oil and gas sector.

In mid-February 2026, President Bola Tinubu signed an Executive Order suspending the collection of management and frontier exploration fees by NNPC and mandating the full remittance of oil and gas revenues to the Federation Account.

Leading Stories: Atiku says 2027 presidency bid will be his final push

He pointed to his age and the growing weight of Nigeria’s political moment.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday evening, the politician was candid about the realities of time and ambition.

When asked whether turning 80 before the next election added pressure to his campaign, Atiku admitted that the race would likely be his final shot.

“Certainly yes, because the stakes are higher and I believe that will be my last outing,” he said.

Atiku’s pursuit of the presidency has stretched across decades, making him one of the most persistent figures in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Sports: Favour Ofili to remain with Nigeria after World Athletics rejects Turkey switch

NRTC WEEKLY learnt that the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) on Thursday, 16 April, confirmed that sprinter Favour Ofili will continue to compete under the Nigerian flag after World Athletics rejected her request to switch allegiance to Turkey.

The AFN announced the decision in a press statement, noting that the ruling ended months of uncertainty over the 23‑year‑old’s international future.

The global athletics authority dismissed the application after reviewing 11 nationality‑change requests from Turkey, warning that such transfers could erode the integrity of the sport.

According to the AFN, the panel stressed that financially driven switches risk discouraging countries from nurturing homegrown talent.

Entertainment: FGM is evil, but it is helping me control my sexual desire – Victoria Inyama opens up

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that veteran Nollywood actress, Victoria Inyama, has shared a deeply personal reflection on her experience with female genital mutilation (FGM), describing its complex impact on her life.

Speaking during an Instagram live session with Daddy Freeze, the actress discussed the controversial practice, widely referred to as circumcision, and how it has influenced her personal choices.

Inyama acknowledged the harmful nature of FGM, recounting the trauma she experienced after undergoing the procedure at the age of five while living with her grandmother in the village.

Despite condemning the practice, she stated that it has affected her ability to control her sexual urges, which she described as a significant influence on her lifestyle.
