Nollywood actor and skit maker Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has addressed speculation surrounding the absence of actress Funke Akindele from the premiere of his debut cinema movie, Star Lomo.
Kamo, who is regarded as one of Akindele’s protégés, said the actress did not attend the premiere because she was outside Nigeria, insisting that there was no disagreement between them.
Akindele’s absence from the event, which was held in Lagos on Sunday, had sparked reactions on social media, with some users questioning whether the development pointed to a change in the relationship between the actress and the actor.
The speculation was fuelled by the pair’s previously close association, with Akindele having publicly supported Kamo’s career and featured him in some of her creative projects.
Reacting to the discussions in a statement shared on X on Monday, Kamo appealed to fans and social media users to stop speculating about his relationship with the actress.
He said, “I woke up to see different opinions online about Iyamii and myself. Please, we’re on good terms.”

The actor explained that Akindele’s absence had nothing to do with any disagreement, stressing that she was simply not in the country when the premiere took place.
He said, “She missed my premiere simply because she wasn’t in the country and nothing more to it, so please don’t assume otherwise.”
Kamo further disclosed that he had discussed the premiere with Akindele and that she had indicated her intention to support the movie despite being unable to attend the event.
He added, “We’ve spoken about it, and she’s going to support this film. I’d appreciate it if our personal relationship isn’t speculated on. Let’s keep our focus on the film.”
Kamo’s association with Akindele became particularly noticeable during the production and promotion of Everybody Loves Jenifa in 2024. His appearances alongside the actress in social media content and at public events subsequently made their relationship a subject of interest among fans.
The actress has also previously hosted Kamo and his wife and publicly supported some of his professional projects, while Kamo appeared in content shared by Akindele on social media.
His acting credits connected to Akindele include Aiyetoro Town Season 2, Behind The Scenes and Everybody Loves Jenifa.
The two have also been photographed together at different events, with Akindele frequently acknowledging and promoting Kamo’s work.

However, their joint appearances on Akindele’s social media platforms became less frequent earlier this year. The reduced visibility of their association, followed by Akindele’s absence from the Star Lomo premiere, prompted some social media users to question whether there had been a disagreement.
Some online commentators also compared the situation with Akindele’s previous relationships with other entertainers she had supported, including Juliana Oloyede, popularly known as Toyo Baby, and Tobi Makinde.
Attention around Akindele’s absence was further heightened by the fact that Kamo held the Star Lomo premiere in Lagos while the actress was in Ghana with singer Waje, who is among the cast members of her forthcoming movie, The Four.
Despite the online speculation, Kamo has maintained that there is no problem between him and Akindele. His comments indicate that, from his perspective, the actress’s absence from the premiere was solely because she was outside the country.
Kamo’s debut cinema project, Star Lomo, marks another step in his transition from skit-making into the wider Nigerian film industry.
